Welcome to the New Teacher BlogPortal!

Welcome to the New Teacher Inducction BlogPortal! The blogportal consists of two layers, the first of which is this home page. You will find updates, important documents, and general information and reflections on this layer for the New Teacher Induction program at Sparta Township Public Schools.

The second layer consists of the individual blogs of the new teachers. These blogs will be used for teachers to report and reflect on their use of the research-based instructional strategies found in Classroom Instruction that Works by Dr. Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane Pollock.

New teachers will reflect on the implementation and execution of the "essential nine" instructional strategies in their professional practice, including the lesson plan utilizing the strategy, support materials (i.e. graphic organizer, additional reference materials, web resources), how the instructional strategy impacted student acheivement, a summary statement of how student achievement was measured, and a reflection of the lesson (what was done well, what could have been done better, etc.).
There are several goals of the New Teacher BlogPortal:
  • To continually reflect on professional practice and improve student achievement.
  • To help report on and reflect on the integration of the essential nine instructional strategies.
  • To build a resource of examples illustrating the research-based instructional strategeis, K through 12.
There are many resources out there that revolve around Classroom Instruction that Works (CITW). Just google "Classroom Instruction that Works" and become overwhelmed by the number of matches. If you are interested in a facet related to CITW, google the phrase "Classroom instruction that works" +the interest. It is no suprise that we will be integrating technology with the each of the instructional strategies, and a search of "Classroom instruction that works" +technology brings up some interesting sites. One of these sites supports the essential nine with suggestions for technological integration. The Jordon School District has just revamped their T4, or Transforming Teaching Through Technology, site focused around CITW. The premise behind the project posted on this educational blog has caught my attention and is helping to direct our integration of the instructional strategies for the up and coming school year. The Sustainable Classroom Model project equips classrooms with similar technologies that are then used in conjunction with CITW to help enhance the integration of the instructional strategy. Examples of each strategy are provided.
With that, Happy Blogging!
