Comparing eating habits between France and the US

- Objective: Student will be able to describe French eating habits and compare with American habits

- Procedure/Activities: Students read as homework a text on French eating habits and in class discuss and review the content. During a class discussion the students answer questions to the text and in pairs use a diagram to compare the differents cultures.

The strategy used was first to identify specific habits, then to compare the differences between the two culture and discuss the similarities.

Overall the lesson was teacher oriented and had to be done over two periods instead of one.

The first part was done as a class discussion where we reviewed the information in the text as wells as a lecture as I was adding elements from my own experience to the text. We discussed specific habits during weekdays and weekends.

The second part was to identify and categorize the specifics of each cultures and the similarities with a 2 ways Venn diagram .

The students worked in pairs identifying on their own the differences and similarities during the week and the weekend.

In a following session we discussed and compared the diagrams.

I chose this type of diagram because of it simplicity.

A suivre....
